  13. The Pastoral essentials- transition • Transition can be a daunting process. • ask for support if you feel that life gets too difficult AND IT IS OUR JOB TO MAKE IT AS SEaMLESS AS POSSIBLE! • Tutors, Learning mentors, Head of year and parents all play a pivotal role in this process- be open and discuss concerns that you may have. • Mrs Arrandale is our Ks3 leaning mentor and provides lots of support to improve organisation, Homework & any general teething problems you may face early on.

  14. The Pastoral essentials- behaviour • Good behaviour and being considerate, courteous , and cooperative members of the school community is what makes BVGS so special. The 3 Cs • Remember, behaviour is a choice and something under your control. • Behaviour Extends beyond the classroom - on your way home on public transport or on trips with school etc… • Achievement points /merits provide reward for good work and behaviour. This provides healthy competition between students and forms so they are able to maximise their potential. • Equally behaviour points are issued when behaviour is not acceptable which results in sanctions.

  15. The Pastoral essentials- reporting Example: IF ‘MidYIS’ assessment predicts a student will achieve a Grade 8 in his Maths GCSE he will placed in the pinkband and his end of year potential to achieve (PTA)for Maths in Year 7 is set to a Grade 4.

  16. The Pastoral essentials- Lunch • Lunch begins at 13.15pm. • Students have an account which BOTH parents AND students can top up using the machines in school and online. • On Friday - games day - students have A ‘queue jumping priority’ which MEANS THEY ARE SERVED FIRST!  • Packed Lunches are also an option if you want to enjoy the extra curricular opportunities on offer and avoid the queues!

  17. The Pastoral essentials:Organisation & UNIFORM • I am a stickler for good uniform! • Wear the Vesey blazer with pride, and take care in your appearance. • Having the right equipment and being ready to learn is very Important. • Secondary school life is different to primary school in many ways and students need to learn to become more independent: • Pack your own bags, double check your planner to see if you have done your homework.
