  3. LEARNING THEORY

  4. Epidemiology of Mislearning- Shulman • Amnesia: Students forget what they have learned in classes • Fantasia:Persistent misconception • Inertia:what are learnt is not in a form that lends them to any useful purpose beyond being remembered Lee S.Shulman, Taking Learning Seriously, Change, 31(4), 1999, pp.11-17 Mengajar Efektif & Kreatif Prof. Dr. Ichsan S. PutraKomisi Pembelajaran - InstitutTeknologi Bandung, INDONESIA

  5. How Can I Teach You ...? • How can I teach you if I don’t know how you learn* • Assumption: if one knows a body of knowledge, one can teach it • Facts: mastery of one’s discipline is a necessary for effective college teaching, but isn’t surelysufficient *How Do Students Learn? A rather extensive article on how students learn, but well the read, http://kcc.cc.sd.us/Webpage/hb/howstud.html, visited on 22/05/2004 Mengajar Efektif & Kreatif Prof. Dr. Ichsan S. PutraKomisi Pembelajaran - Institut Teknologi Bandung, INDONESIA

  6. HOW DO PEOPLE LEARN? • Transmit Knowledge? • Constructivism • Social Constructivism L. Dee Fink: The JOY and RESPONSIBILITY of TEACHING WELLa Mengajar Efektif & Kreatif Prof. Dr. Ichsan S. PutraKomisi Pembelajaran - Institut Teknologi Bandung, INDONESIA

  7. THIS IS NOT LEARNING Lila M. Smith Mengajar Efektif & Kreatif Prof. Dr. Ichsan S. PutraKomisi Pembelajaran - InstitutTeknologi Bandung, INDONESIA

  8. Constructivism The theory that people build their own knowledge and their own representations of knowledge from their own experience and thought. Mengajar Efektif & Kreatif Prof. Dr. Ichsan S. PutraKomisi Pembelajaran - Institut Teknologi Bandung, INDONESIA

  9. Learning As Knowledge Construction? Student Construct Meaning from Experiences http://www.arthistoryarchive.com/arthistory/constructivism/

  10. Learning-increasing connections

  11. Prior Knowledge: Fish is Fish

  12. Fish is Fish

  13. Learning Principles (1) Learning is fundamentally about making and maintaining connections: biologically through neural networks; mentally among concepts, ideas, meanings; experientially through interaction between the mind and the environment, self and other, generality and context, deliberation and action. AAHE, A Powerful Partnerships: A Shared Responsibility for Learning http://www.aahe.org/assessment/joint.htm visited 16/04/2003

  14. Learning Principles (2) Learning is an active search for meaning – constructing knowledge rather than passively receiving it, shaping as well asbeing shaped by experiences. AAHE, A Powerful Partnerships: A Shared Responsibility for Learning http://www.aahe.org/assessment/joint.htm visited 16/04/2003 Mengajar Efektif & Kreatif Prof. Dr. Ichsan S. PutraKomisi Pembelajaran - Institut Teknologi Bandung, INDONESIA

  15. Learning Principles (3) Learning is done by individuals who are intrinsically tied to others as social beings, interacting as competitors or collaborators, constraining or supporting the learning process, and able to enhance learning through cooperation and sharing. AAHE, A Powerful Partnerships: A Shared Responsibility for Learning http://www.aahe.org/assessment/joint.htm visited 16/04/2003 Mengajar Efektif & Kreatif Prof. Dr. Ichsan S. 18. More or Less is better?

  19. Worth Being Familiar With Important To Know And To Do Big Ideas and Enduring Understandings

  20. TOPIK PEMBICARAAN Learning Theory Outcomes Based Education Learner Centered Education Perencanaan Pembelajaran Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran Monitoring Pembelajaran Evaluasi Pembelajaran

  21. OUTCOMES BASED EDUCATION

  22. Outcomes Based Education (OBE) • A method of curriculum design and teaching that focusses on what students can actually do after they are being taught

  23. Outcomes Based Education (1) Ask the following questions: • What do you want your students to learn • Why do you want them to learn it • How can you best help them to learn it • How will you know what they have learnt

  24. Outcomes Based Education (2) • Documenting Educational Effectiveness • Culture of Evidence • Process and Product LO Assessment as part of Continuous Improvement J. Lindholm, UCLA Guidelines for Developing & Assessing Student Learning Outcomes for Undergraduate Majors, 1 st ed. April 2009

  25. Outcomes Based Education (4) J. Lindholm, UCLA Guidelines for Developing & Assessing Student Learning Outcomes for Undergraduate Majors, 1 st ed. April 2009

  26. Expectation for Student Learning=Student Learning OutcomesDerived fromProgram Educational Objective

  27. ABET OUTCOMES a-k • an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and enggr • an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data • an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs • an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams • an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems • an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility • an ability to communicate effectively • the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and societal context • a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning • a knowledge of contemporary issues • an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.

  28. Contoh Statika Struktur • Tujuan mata kuliah: Mahasiswa dapat • Menghitung resultan gaya 2 D dan 3D • Menggambar diagram benda bebas • Menuliskan persamaan kesetimbangan untuk menghitung gaya-gaya reaksi • Menggambar diagram gaya-gaya dalam • Menghitung pengaruh gaya gesekan pada sistem mekanik
