2012-13 Start up changes • Financial Independence Status (FIS) • Streamline edits and messages • FIS Petition Status Codes • Unchanged: G, J, L, M, P, Q, K, T, Z • New Definition X-Replaces U, V, W,X • New Code W-Student is independent based on response to new question, “Are you claiming financial independence from your parents?”

TAP Earned Credit Report • Report will review all aspects of the TAP program including: • All policies and costs associated with the distribution of TAP funds • Report will include statistics on TAP recipients for the 2010-11 terms: • Students receiving TAP in each term • Students granted waivers • Students decertified for not meeting good academic standards • Credits earned in each term
TAP Earned Credit Report (cont.) • In December 2011, HESC will provide each school by campus code and TAP code, a file or Excel spreadsheet* with a list of students certified for TAP for each applicable term for the 2010-11 academic year • By January 17, 2012 schools will submit credits earned to HESC *Web File Transfer only
Purpose • Streamline, simplify processes • Eliminate edits that were based on paper applications • Combine main TAP processing system with manual scholarship processing • Give schools better information to make their job easier
Changes already implemented • Improvements in verifying income with NYS Department of Taxation & Finance • Collection of full last names for spouse, mother and father • Check for invalid SSN using ISIR

Changes already implemented • Comprehensive Student Status Listing • Complete picture of student’s financial aid programs administered by HESC • Data from standard TAP rosters as well as Consolidated Scholarship Rosters • Two record types – Demo and FAP
