Let’s return to these questions…. • Is there such a thing as an objective moral good? • An objective moral evil? T/P/S • Is it right for us to judge the ethics of another person? • Is it right for us to impose our ethics on another person? T/P/S
Moral Relativism • What is good depends on a person’s preferences and individual values. • “We are moving toward a dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything as definitive and has as its highest value one's own ego and one's own desires.” –Pope Benedict XVI
Morality • Pertaining to the rules of right conduct • Nobody strives to do the wrong thing. • We have different ideas about what the right thing is.
Ethics • A system of values based on some higher philosophy which influence our moral choices. • The system of rules or principles on which we base our moral decisions. • If ‘morals’ is the ‘what,’ ‘ethics’ is the ‘why.’
Ethics • Our ethical systems directly influence our moral behavior

Kennedy has to make a decision about what to do.
What would each of these ethical systems do? • Nationalist Ethics? • Consequentialism? • Deontology? • Relativism? • Virtue Ethics? • Christian Ethics?
