Who’s who des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc Frédéric de Luze, President Olivier Cuvelier, Vice-President François Nony, Vice-President Frédérique de Lamothe, Director
Deep historical roots ”Crus Bourgeois” is a traditional term that dates back to the Middle Ages. Some key dates: • 1824: Mr. Franck's treatise identifies about 300 Crus Bourgeois in the Médoc. • 1932: Bordeaux's wine merchants with the Chamber of Commerce officially recognize 444 Crus Bourgeois. • 1962: a union of the Crus Bourgeois is formed. 4 founder members. Among them the father of Olivier Cuvelier and the uncle of François Nony (Currently both vice-presidents of the Crus Bourgeois). • 2003: a ministerial decree approves the first official classification of the Crus Bourgeois du Médoc (247 châteaux). • 2009: approval by the French public authorities of a new quality selection procedure
The Cru Bourgeois Quality procedure • An innovative quality process • Compliance with quality criteria on the basis of approved specifications • An independent body checks the impartiality of the process • Each vintage is tasted blind by professional tasters • The quality of each bottle is authenticated • Each CB bottle is identified by a sticker with a unique & random number => A guarantee of quality for the consumers & buyers
The Cru Bourgeois Quality procedure • Main Principles • The "Cru Bourgeois" quality procedure takes • place two years after the harvest: • the 2008 vintage was assessed in 2010, • 2009 in 2011, 2010 in 2012 , 2011 in 2013 and • 2012 in 2014 • It is based on a schedule of requirements and complemented by a Verification Procedure. • 2 steps : • An audit of each estate realised by the independant body • An annual blind tasting by professional tasters => The "Cru Bourgeois" procedure approves the quality of a given volume of wine and provides a guarantee of this quality for the consumer.
Connectivity and authenticity • Launching of a new website and a mobile site in 2012 : • Innovative format with tablet type navigation (dynamic, fluid, interactive), • A direct link between the "Cru Bourgeois" sticker on all bottlesand a dedicated space for each château.
