What is Photosynthesis? • "the production of carbohydrates from carbon dioxide and water, using sunlight as the source of energy and with the aid of chlorophyll.” • In other words it is a process in which plants collect energy from the sun for food • http://www.realtrees4kids.org/sixeight/letseat.htm
How does it work? • http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/methuselah/photosynthesis.html# • http://www.brainpop.com/science/cellularlifeandgenetics/photosynthesis/ • http://www.myschoolhouse.com/courses/O/1/35.asp
Why is it important? • Because with out it, life as we know it would not be able to sustain itself. • http://photoscience.la.asu.edu/photosyn/study.html
Making Dirt • Ingredients • Powdered Sugar • Cream Cheese • Milk • Instant Vanilla Pudding • Cool Whip • Vanilla Extract • Oreo Cookies • Gummy Worms
Making Dirt • Beat 3 cups of milk, 2 3 oz. puddings packets, and 2 tsp. of vanilla extract • Once thick add the cream cheese mixture. (prepared by the teacher before class) • Since we need three cups of milk and we don’t have a 1 cup measuring cup, what other measuring cups and combinations can we use to get 3 cups?
Making Dirt • Fold in 2 16oz. Containers of Cool Whip • Layer crushed Oreos and creamy mixture • Add gummy worms • Refrigerate
Making Frosting • Add one cup of powdered sugar, 1-3 tablespoons of milk, and a tsp. of vanilla extract into a bowl. Stir until creamy • Separate frosting into bowls and add food coloring to each bowl.
Create Drawing • Get into groups of three and create a drawing of photosynthesis! • Make sure to frost cake so that materials can stick to it.
How to make flowers • Grab two tootsie rolls and flatten them. • Make 5 to 6 pieces • Roll one piece to make the center of the flower • Place the petals around the center
When Finished • Each group will present and describe the photosynthesis process and the materials they used for each part • After all the groups have gone you can eat your project!
