In an effort to buck the system there will be no handouts or other standard conformities, but if you need to prove to your boss that you were actually in attendance at this session (and not enjoying the beach or the golf course) any of the presenters will be happy to vouch for you. Research Administrator Feud Q: What excuses do you hear for not engaging in research and sponsored programs? 32% I ain’t got enough time. 27% Too many bureaucratic barriers (authorizations, compliance, etc…). 14% It ain’t worth all the effort--submittin’ a proposal ain’t easy. 12% I gotta do too much teachin’. 7% Frankly, I just don’t gotta do it to get promoted (or) I’m already tenured and ain’tgotta do it.

This stuff is just too much work. I’d rather take a vacation. (Time - Reward) • I need some start-up money, man. 6. I just ain’t gotta do this @#$%.

I got a gazillion papers to read and tests to grade. • The ORSP staff ain’t purty, they be bureaucracy central, & they try to kill my great entrepreneurial spirit with compliance junk. 3. It ain’t worth it, I’ll take my chances doin’ somethin’ else. • I’m a Professor, why do I gotta teach so much? 1. There is never enough time, unless you’re serving it.

They might get promoted faster. . . 8. Do they need summer salary or even to supplement their salary? . . . 7. They might get grant-funded help to do their stuff. . . . 6. They could get some of their students involved so they could actually learn by doing. . . .

Top 10 Reasons FGCU is the best university in the SE United States 10. The boss makes most of us go home at yabba dabba doo time. • The ORSP staff is really good looking--I mean, take a look at who you’re greeted by when you walk in the door. • The Grant God and Grant Goddess reside in Fort Myers (not related by blood). • Some days we take long lunch hours and the boss doesn’t yell about it. 6. The boss doesn’t make you bring in a doctor’s note when you call in sick more than two days in a row.

Fort Myers is the land of white sand beaches, palm trees, and sunshine everyday of the year. • We have an annual Research Day event and spend a lot of money partying after it. 3. Staff pretends NCURA meetings are really hard work when in reality it is a quasi paid vacation. • Research administration can be deadly, dull, boring stuff but we are really fun people. 1. How many other sessions have you attended where all the presenters are from the same kick %@$ school?
