When I Survey the Wondrous Cross Hymn

A beautiful hymn written by Isaac Watts and set to the tune by Lowell Mason. Reflect on the profound sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, acknowledging the insignificance of earthly gains in comparison. Surrender everything to the redeeming power of Christ's blood and marvel at the love and sorrow expressed through his suffering. Recognize that even if all nature were mine, it would still be an inadequate offering for such an amazing and divine love that demands my soul, my life, my all.

  1. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross Hymn: Isaac Watts Tune: Lowell Mason

  2. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross 1. When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of Glory died; my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride.

  3. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross 2. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death of Christ, my God; all the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his blood.

  4. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross 3. See, from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down. Did e'er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown.

  5. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross 4. Were the whole realm of nature mine, that were an offering far too small; love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.
