Today, destination weddings planned over a longer period of a few days (or even a week) have become more the norm than a wealthy exception. And among those destinations where such weddings are taking place, one of the most popular destinations is Italy in general, and a few specific towns and cities of Italy in particular.

We have left far behind those days of simple church weddings. Back in the day, people used to invite their friends and relatives of the same city or nearby places, and all guests would converge at the church for a few hours. The marital vows are taken, all the guests would repair to the church lawns for a few hours of food and drink, song and dance. And bam! The wedding was over.
Today, destination weddings planned over a longer period of a few days (or even a week) have become more the norm than a wealthy exception. And among those destinations where such weddings are taking place, one of the most popular destinations is Italy in general, and a few specific towns and cities of Italy in particular. Instead of discussing why Italy is such a popular destination for weddings, let us take a quick look at three places in Italy that exemplify the best of this country, in order to understand what makes Italy click.
Sorrento Located bang in the center of the Neapolitan Riviera, it is not the sleepy town that you might expect. Positively buzzing with chic cafes, restaurants serving authentic Italian food, and lively bars that liven things up, Sorrento is the perfect blend of native Italian culture (the place is very close to the ruins of Pompeii) and the hip sophistication of modernity. When you are planning your wedding here, each one of your guests will find something to their taste here, and your Rome wedding photographer will be spoilt for choice with picturesque backdrops.
Amalfi Coast The quaint town of Amalfi is on the list of UNESCO heritage destinations, but when you plan a wedding here you need not to be limited to this town only. The entire Amalfi coast offers a breathtaking choice of attractive scenery and virgin beaches. At one time the hillsides of the Amalfi coast opening up to the sea might have been overgrown with forests but now they are littered with cute boxlike structures which have houses and also places for the tourists to stay. Guests would love to explore the towns with their meandering backstreets and steep steps, but they can also take a tour of the surrounding groves full of lemon and olive plantations. The most popular tours for wedding guests are the boat trips along the coast to visit some exotic locales, while stopping once in a while at one of the numerous cafes dotting the coastline.
Venice When we are putting together a list of picturesque destinations in Mediterranean Italy, how can Venice not feature on it? Those gondolas can take wedding guests on romantic and lazy trips over the waterways of this quaint city, but you can also arrange an exchange to have the bride and groom exchange their solemn vows on a gondola instead of inside a church. This amazing city would never run out of places which you can explore or take refuge in from the madding crowds, being composed of about 100 islands divided into 16 districts.
