AMMONIUM THIOSULPHATE FERTILIZER MARKET ANALYSIS Ammonium Thiosulphate Fertilizer Market, by Form (Liquid and Powder), by Application (Row Crops, Vegetable Crops, Trees, Vines, and Alfalfa), and by Region (North America, South America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Middle East & Africa) - Size, Share, Outlook, and Opportunity Analysis, 2019 – 2027
Ammonium Thiosulphate (ATS) is an inorganic chemical used to manufacture liquid fertilizer used in agricultural crops. Ammonium Thiosulphate fertilizers constitutes two main elements such as Nitrogen and Sulfur, which helps crops in protein synthesis and also increases nitrogen efficiency (ability to utilize nitrogen for synthesis). Sulfur being main component of proteins, amino acids, and peptides, ATS aids in synthesis of different proteins and also increases the yield of the crops. ATS is mostly used as an aqueous solution, containing 26% sulfur and 12% nitrogen. ATS have application in many row crops such as maize, soybean, corn, cotton, millet, beans, wheat, and others in combination with other liquid fertilizers. Moreover, ATS have applications in vegetable crops such as spinach, cabbage, eggplant, tomato, melon, and others. Other applications include trees, vines, and alfalfa. Market Dynamics: • Rising demand of ATS from fertilizers industry across the globe is expected to drive ammonium thiosulphate market growth over the forecast period. For instance, according to the FAO - Food and Agriculture Organization (U.S.), in 2017, the global demand for fertilizer nutrients including sulfur, nitrogen, potash, and phosphates raised to 191 Kilo tons from 184 Kilo tons in 2015. • However, excessive use of chemical fertilizers to increase the crop yield results in soil degradation. Moreover, excessive use of fertilizers turns ground water poisonous and may create dead zones in the oceans. For instance, the Gulf of Mexico has ocean dead zone, wherein there is no biological activity due to leaching of fertilizers in water bodies and are further transferred to the ocean. Such factors are expected to restrain growth of the ammonium thiosulphate fertilizer market over the forecast period.
Market Outlook: • Asia Pacific held a major share in the global ammonium thiosulphate fertilizer market in 2018. Rising demand for food grains and vegetables from countries in Asia Pacific, owing to increasing population in the region is one of the driving factors for growth of the ammonium thiosulphate market in Asia Pacific. For instance, according to the research study by Asian Development Bank, Asia Pacific is expected to account for 1/3rd of the projected 2.6 Bn increase in global population during 2010 and 2050, thus requiring additional efforts to increase the productivity of crops to serve rising population. • Increasing food grain production in India is expected to be a major driver for growth of the ammonium thiosulphate fertilizer market in the country. For instance, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), during the crop year 2017-18, food grain production was 285.84 million tons and the government is estimating production to reach 285.2 million tons in the current crop year (2018-2019). • North America is expected to witness significant growth in the ammonium thiosulphate fertilizer market over the forecast period, owing to significant use of ATS in crops such as soybean and corn, particularly in the U.S. Soybean and corn are majorly produced crops in the U.S. Ammonium Thiosulphate facilitates sulfur and nitrogen, which are considered vital for the growth of these crops. For instance, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, in 2017, corn yield in the U.S. was 176.6 bushels per acre and soybean yield was 4.39 billion bushels in 2017.
