How to Connect to the RSJ File Server On campus, and at home…
On Campus: Connect to Server • From any of our labs, or any other Macintosh computer on the campus network… • From the Go menu > Connect to Server… • files.jour.unr.edu • Connect using your UNR NetID logon and password. • Choose the volume you want. • Tutorials and other teaching resources are located on the “Student Resources” volume.
Directories on Volume • You’ll see all the directories installed on that server volume.
Accessing the Server from Home • From home, or from anywhere off campus, you will need to use an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) utility to access any of our servers. • On a Macintosh, you can use an FTP program called Fetch. • It is a free program for UNR students and faculty; you may install it from: • http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/ • For both MACs and Windows a free FTP program, Filezilla, is available at:http://sourceforge.net/ • UNR instructions for Filezilla: • http://www.it.unr.edu/pages/filezilla.aspx
Macintosh: Use Fetch to Connect* • From off-campus: • Start Fetch. • From its Shortcuts menu > New Shortcut… • Use these parameters: • Name:UNR fileserver • Kind: Folder • Hostname:files.jour.unr.edu • Username: [yourNetID] • Connect using: SFTP • Password: [yourPswd] • Path:/Volumes/DATA2/Student Resources/ • Port: 2244 *Note: whatever the FTP utility you use, these parameters will remain the same.
Connect Using Shortcut • After all the New Shortcut variables have been entered… • Click OK. • From the Shortcuts menu, select Show Shortcuts. • Double-click on your shortcut to connect.
Navigate to Folder and File • Once the volume is mounted, you can then navigate to the specific folder and file that you need. • Drag that folder or file to your Desktop to makea copy on your computer.
