  2. Pre-requisite: None • Lecture: E113. • Wednesday – from 11:30 to 01:20 A.m • Instructor:Dr.RaniaFarouq Email :Rania.Farouq@Pua.edu.eg • Room: E 237 • Office hours: Sunday from 11:30 to 1:20 • Monday from 11:30- 1:20 • Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:20 • ………………………………………………………….

  3. Course Aim: To enable students to: 1- know the climate studies, including the threat of global climate change. 2- detect the role of human beings towards the environment. 3- describe the changes that occur to the environment and their effects on the present & future lives of the society. Intended Learning outcomes:

  4. Intended learning outcomes(ILO,S) A- Knowledge and understanding: • a9-i define air, water and soil environmental systems. • a9-ii list the components of air, water and soil environmental systems. • a9-iii explain the factors contributing to the green house effect. • a9-iv describe the role of uncontrolled energy consumption in disturbing the natural balance of ecosystems. • a9-v interpret the potential green house effect from a given air composition. • a9-vi describe the environmental events that results from the global climate change. • a9-viiidentify the common pollutants present in air and their sources. • a9-viii interpret the means which are used to minimize formation of air pollutants. • a9-ix list the pollutants found in municipal wastewater • a9-x define the methods used to treat the municipal wastewater. • a9-xi describe the municipal wastewater treating plant. • a9-xii describe the industrial wastewater treatment plant. • a9-xiii list the methods used for disposal of wastes from municipal/industrial wastewater treatment plants. • a9-xiv describe the method used for preparing solid wastes for disposal into Landfills.

  5. b- Intellectual skills b3-i determine methods of sampling air and water for environmental studies. b3-ii examine the concentration of industrial pollutants in air and water samples. b3-iii adapt the air and water analyses relevant to compliance to environmental protection laws. b8-i calculate the efficiency of gravity separation of free oil in Oil Catchers. b8-ii classify the composition of coagulants to flocc formation in the DAF Process. b8-iii adapt the bacterial role in the biological treatment of wastewater. c1. c2. c3. .

  6. C- Professional and practical skills • c18-i select sampling techniques for different environmental samples. • c18-ii classify the quality of air samples according to the Air Quality Index. • c18-iii explain the role of the coagulant aid in enhancing flocc formation in the DAF Process. • c18-iv arrange the quality of water samples according to their compliance to the specs of Environmental Protection Laws. .

  7. d- General and transferable skills • d2-i practice mind mapping • d2-ii follow the theoretical and graphical representations procedures. • d4- communicate effectively as a part of a group in analyzing and presenting different types of researches • d5 search for information and adopt life-long self learning.

  8. Teaching and learning methods I- Methods • Lectures II- Instruments • Power Point presentations • Interactive discussions Student assessment : A- Procedures used • Assessment (1) drop quizzes • Assessment (2) Reports & Presentations. • Assessment (3) Mid-term written exams. • Assessment (4) Final written exams.

  9. B- Schedule • Drop Quizzes weekly • Reports & Presentations & IT applications As per lecturer schedule • Mid-term written exams 9th Week • Final written exams 16th Week • C- Weighting of Assessment • Class works including quizzes % 30 • Mid Term Written Exam %20 • Final Written Exam % 50
