Performance Standards Increase size of Kiln Room to accommodate 2nd kiln Section 4 Art Increase will allow for larger teaching area in the event these CRs are divided Increase duplex CRs from 784 sq. ft. (average) to 950 sq. ft. Capital IV – Design Guidelines The Proposed 2010 Educational Specifications provide descriptions of typical programmed spaces for each of the three main types of schools: Elementary, Middle, and High. Previous FCS Educational Specifications developed in 1997 include General Requirements. The Proposed 2010 Design Requirements expand on these. Most requirements are based on standards which have already been incorporated into the prototypical schools in order to maintain “Cost Neutrality”. Proposed revisions shown below are the exceptions which will impact construction cost beyond current prototypical schools.
Capital IV – Design Requirements Justification Proposed Revision Div. 2 – SITE These upgrades are included to ensure parity and standardization between future schools. Facilities at Athletic Fields provide by the Construction Contract have been expanded to include features previously provided at some, but not all schools High School Baseball Batting Cages (Qty 1) High School Softball Batting Cages (Qty 1) High School Practice Field Football Goals (Qty 2) Provide appropriate surfaces at pedestrian traffic routes To maintain attractive landscape appearance Div.5 – Metals Quality upgrade to avoid rusty steel rails which are difficult to properly re-finish. Capital IV – Design Requirements Justification Proposed Revision Div. 8 –Doors & Windows Classroom window requirements at general instruction classrooms are similar to the previous Ed Specs. However, excessively large windows and windows with decorative applied mullions are specifically prohibited. This is a value engineering recommendation in order to provide specific instructions to future architects, to reduce construction costs and enhance maintainability. High School Middle School Elementary School Div.11- Equip. Theatrical/ Stage Equipment requirements are more specific than previous Ed Specs. Requires Architect to employ a qualified Stage Equipment Designer and incorporate equipment appropriate for each program into the construction contract, including, theatrical light fixtures. To provide the appropriate design expertise for equipment required and to avoid installation coordination problems through having equipment provided and installed by the building contract.
Capital IV – Design Requirements Proposed Revision Justification Score Boards were previously donated items. These upgrades are included to ensure parity and standardization between future schools. Div. 11 - Equip Provide complete Score Board systems in the at the following locations: High School Main Gym: (Qty – 2) High School Auxiliary Gym: (Qty - 2) Middle School Gym: (Qty – 2) High School Stadium: (Qty – 1) High School Baseball: (Qty – 1) High School Softball: (Qty – 1) These upgrades are included to ensure parity, standardization between future schools, as well as to limit the type of equipment allowed in concession buildings. Concession equipment was not specifically addressed in previous Ed Specs. Only utilities and the Ice Maker are provided by the Construction Contract. Appliances requiring a hood are not allowed.
