  1. Aug 4, 2005 Hcal sx5 status/issues

  2. overview • CCM temperature readout • DAQs for sx5hcal • HCAL installation status • SATOCRICH

  3. CCM: to modify or not to modify 1. ccm does not have  a perfect design (with respect to temperature measurement). 2. vladimir/vitali tried to improve it by introducing 0.5Mohm resistors between signal and ground.     this solution cured original problem (presence of signal from channels even if no temperature probe is connected). 3. vladimir noticed that with 0.5Mohm resistors, there is still a problem of correlation between channels.     he checked that by introducing 1.3khom resistors to ground, the correlation is effectively gone.

  4. Not to modify ? 4. however this solution is no good, as it makes temp sensors 4 times less sensiitve.     for voltage definition, inside CCM there is 6kohm resistor. by introducing 1.3kohm, we get     ~ 4 times less volts/deg C. so we go from granularity of 1.5deg (original design) to ~ 6deg (1.3kohm). 5. one can expect that if we introduce lower resistors (maybe 20kohm)  in parallel with 6kohm internal resistor, then temp sensitivity wil change only minimally. and this  would be the best compromise. 6. however, at this point, we think that is may not be worth an affort to patch up CCM design.     we have installed all 18 CCMs on HE-, and another 18 CCMs on HB+.     we plan to start installation of CCMs, RMs, and Calboxes on HE+ starting aug8.     so at that point any additional modification jobs on CCMs delay installation and     commissioning of all hcal subsystems significantly. 7. we think it is better invest our time into proper  installation and commissioning of hcal.     in order to give us reliable temp control on RBXes, we will continue (german is leading this effort)    to develop/install independent temp sensor/control system.

  5. DAQs for sx5hcal 1. moe3 (hb+ side), until end of august                                                         hb+ wiresourcing                                                         long-term burn-in of hb rbx                                                         satocrich  project when drew/jeremy are ready to setup/test hcal internal trigger in september, we will use also moe3 for this • moe6: (hb- side), until end of september:  hb- qc/burn-in                                                                       he- laser + wiresourcing 3. 3rd daq (parts from fnal/b28):   as soon as it is fuctional:                                                   he+ commissioning                                                   ho+2 commissioning

  6. Many people are now working full-time in sx5: vitali smirnov, peter goncharov, vladimir epshteyn, sasha vishnevski, petr moissenz, alexei volkov, tola lipatov, alexei shnyrev, german martinez, Alexi Mestvirishvili , michal szleper, alvin laasanen, oscar gonzalez, salim cerci  numan Bakirci, pelin kurt, huseyin topakli, also support upport from arjan, ianos, richard

  7. he- status • All (but one) HE- sector fixed: s8/rm3, on HV (need time to access) s14/rm1/ch11 recovered • Started to reposition OF p. panel to its final (?) location on HE- (near) side • Water flow OK in all sectors , 25deg water, RBXes at 35-37 deg, DCS LV cutoff set at 45deg • Two aux. patch panels installed

  8. he- plans for next two weeks(aug4-aug18) • Laser commissioning (using old/qc laser) check optical path (laser-> 80m cable-> aux p. panel -> 20m cable -> LDB -> Calbox -> HPD check timing of sectors with laser after OF p. panel is installed in new place

  9. Preparing for 5mCi sourcing of he- • 5mCi source installation into ‘rewamped’ source driver (ianos/alvin) • Radiation zone issues (pawel/sasha) • Source logistics (sasha) • Upgrade of DAQ: HTRs, 2nd DCC (arjan) w/o Slink64 only two (maybe 4?) spigots at a time • Sourcing analysis (peter m.)

  10. he- action items • Add two more HV power supplies (sergey) • Start laser work (configuration file- arjan) • Reconnect OF p. panel (peter/vladimir) • Aux p. panels (sasha, nicolai) • Calbox channels assignment (alexei) • HEM/burn-in analysis (pelin/husain/irina) • Start assembly of source elevator (alexei)

  11. he+ status • All copper and OF cables installed • Satelite cables (TTC, Calbox readout) pulled • Water to be connected this week • LDB installed, connected to RBXes • Ready to start installation of RMs, CCMs, Calboxes • Ready to connect OF to p. panels

  12. he+ plans for august • Install DCS system (sergey) • Install HV system (sergey/alexei) • Start working on LV system (CAEN style, arjan/vladimir) • Connect cables to 3rd DAQ (still not at sx5)

  13. hb+ status • started wire sourcing of hb+ wedges with 1.5mCi source • so far 3 wedges done, hope to reach a rate of 1 wedge/day • Day-time: install cables/run LED test • Eve-time: wiresourcing • In parallel, we do long term stability test/burn-in of one of hb RBXes

  14. satocrich project (german, irina, numan, pete m., peter g., pawel) Install four muon counters: two 40cmx80cm, inner radius of w15 two 30cmx108cm, outer radius of w6 Feed coincidence to princeton trigger board (arjan) See signal in few towers (phi=2,3, eta=1-5) Also working on event display (andrei loginov)
