Content psychodynamic, behavioral and cognitive theories of abnormal behavior biological explanations of psychiatric disease
Aim At the end of the training period the student will comprehend biopsychosocial factors which cause psychopathology and will get information about different psychopathological theories
Objectives Student will; • define psychodynamic, behavioral and cognitive theories of abnormal behavior • discuss explanatory features of basic psychopathological theories, • evaluate risk factors, pathogenesis and diagnostic criterion of psychiatric disease • make biopsychosocial evaluation
Mental disease criteria • Bizarreness of Behavior • Persistence of Behavior • Social Deviance • Subjective Distress • Being Dangerous • Effect on Functioning Normal Abnormal
3D criteria • 3 criteria for abnormality be referring to them as “the three D’s” • Deviance • Dysfunction • Distress
Seligman et al., criteria • Suffering • Maladaptiveness • Irrationality and incomprehensibility • Unpredictability and loss of control • Vividness and unconventionality • Observer discomfort • Violation of moral and ideal standards
Psychopathology Defines a problematic condition in mood, thought and behavior • There is a function defeat in home, work and social life • It causes distress in person’s himself or around the person
Mental Theories Psychodynamic Unconscious conflicts between primitive desires and limits originating from mental disease Mental disease’s symptoms occur when some original behaviors are strengthen and punished Behavioral People’s themselves and their negative beliefs about the world and other people cause negative sensation and behaviors Cognitive
Biological explanations • Altering in the brain chemistry, can alter thecognition, mood and behaviour Brain chemistry Behaviour Mood Cognition
Diatez-stress model • Gene-environment interaction Existence of stress + Genetic vulnerability Illness Absence of stress Health -
Mechanisms effecting synaptic transmission Changes in molecular structure Excess neurotransmission Low neurotransmission Imbalances of neurotransmitters Error in neuronal network Loss of neuronal plastisite
Neurotransmitter-Symptom ‘Psychomotor agitation’ ‘Agression’ 5-HT, GABA 5-HT, GABA ‘Apathy’ ACh 5-HT,DA 5-HT ‘Psychosis’ ‘Depression’
Cognitive functions-Illness Perception Psychosis Sensation Social function Cognition Dementia Depression Parkinson Motor function
Vernacular blood stream in bipolar defeat • Depression • Mania • Depression (Baxter et al 1985) 22
Normal schizophrenia Excess pruning
Stressful life events in childhood Present living conditions Depression Thought Belief systems Basic assumptions STRESS Genetics Physical functions
QUESTION Which of this is a pathology related with low neurotransmission? • Panic attack • Hypomani • Excitation • Lack of attention • Delusion
QUESTION Increase in noradrenergic neurotransmission from locus ceruleus to limbic system cause to …. a- Illusion b- Hallucination c- Panic d- Obsession e- Depression
