  2. Vārna noskatījusies, cik gulbis balts un skaists, un palikusi skaudīga. The crow became envious watching at the white and beautiful crow.

  3. Kad nu gulbis aizmidzis, tad vārna tam pielaidusies klāt un apmētājusi to ar dubļiem gluži melnu. As soon as the swan fell asleep, then the crow flied up to him and slandered quite black.

  4. Kad gulbis atkal pamodies un redzējis sev netīrus spārnus. When the swan awake again and saw its dirty wings.

  5. Tad viņš palīdis zem ūdens, noskalojies un pacēlies atkal tik pat tīrs un balts kā agrāk. Then he crawled again as white and clean as earlier.

  6. Vārna nu arī gribējusi nomazgāties balta un sākusi pa ūdeni lieliski pērties, bet palikusi tāda pati melna un pelēka. The crow also wanted to be white ,but after bathing he stayed black and grey as befor.

  7. Tādēļ arī ļaudis saka: “Tāda vārna pērta, tāda nepērta.” Therefore people also say: “Such crow flogged, such not flogged.”
