Applications of Modeling Review various approaches to finding lines to fit sets of data Evaluate the results of those approaches
In the previous lesson you learned a systematic method, known as the Q-Points method, that uses Quartiles to find the line of fit, when the data appears to follow a linear pattern. • In this lesson you will contrast that method with ways you’ve used before and evaluate the results.

The table shows data that Edwin Hubble used in 1929 to formulate Hubble’s Law. • The table includes the distance from Earth to known nebulae measured in megaparsec and the speed at which each nebula is moving away from or toward Earth.
In this investigation you will create three linear models, analyze your models, and use them to make predictions. • The first method will be eyeballing the line of fit.
Complete steps 3 and 4 on the graphing calculator with your group. • Use the point-slope form to write the line of fit.
Complete steps 5 and 6 with your group. • You will use the Q-Points method to write the line of fit.
Complete steps 7-12. • You will compare and evaluate the three lines your have created.
