The Certified Associate in Project Management (CaPM) • Ideal for people who do not meet the experience requirements for PMP • Or, for people whom project management is a part time job • Ideal step towards PMP • Requirements • Equivalent of a High School diploma plus 1,500 hours of project management experience • Or, 23 hours of project management training • Pass a 3 hour, 150 question multi-choice exam • Tested solely on information held in the PMBOK Guide
The Project Management Professional (PMP) • The most accepted PM certification in NZ • Requirements • Category one • A degree • 4,500 hours of PM experience. (3 years) • 35 hours of project management education • Category two • High School Diploma • 7,500 hours of PM experience. (5 years) • 35 hours of project management education • Exam • 4 hours, 200 Question multi-choice • Tested on the PMBOK guide plus PM knowledge
Programme Management Professional (PgMP) • Specific eligibility is as follows: • Bachelor’s degree, the global equivalent or higher degreewithin the last 15 years: • Four years (6,000 hours) of project mgmt work, AND • Four years (6,000 hours) of program mgmt work experience. • High School diploma, Associate’s degree or the global equivalent within the last 15 years: • Four years (6,000 hours) of project mgmt work, AND • Seven years (10,500 hours) of program mgmt work experience. • Competence established with a sequence of assessments • Initial assessment of competence, exam and Interview panel
CaPM and PMP Exams Costs • CaPM Examination Cost • Initial Certification Fee — member $US225 • Initial Certification Fee — non-member $US300 • PMP Examination Cost • Computer Based Testing — member $US405 • Computer Based Testing — non-member $US555 • Paper Based Testing – member $US250 • Paper Based Testing – non-member $US400
Post PMP • PMP valid for a period of three years. • Each 3 year cycle, must obtain 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs). • These can be obtained by: • Attending monthly PMINZ meetings • Being a practicing PM • Attending PM conferences/seminars • Volunteer service (Branch committee/National Board) • Reading PMI material
What next? • Register as a PMI member $US149, plus $US10 application fee • Read the PMBoK guide • Join a Study Group. PMINZ members only and it is a facilitated self study. • Enrol on line for CaPM or PMP • Submit Resume to PMI to validate requirements • Sit the Paper Exam in Wellington and Christchurch or electronically (Prometric) in Auckland. • Attend the monthly PMINZ Central Branch meetings - every third Monday at 5.30pm.
