  1. Learning & Teaching Bond What can students expect from teachers? What can teachers expect from students? These 2 questions form our student learning charter and a joint learning and teaching agreement. The use of the word ‘bond’ is used instead of ‘charter’ for accessibility; to encourage a partnership between students and teachers.

Learning & Teaching Bond Teaching Learning Bond definition: • Technological meaning = links in with technology specialsim • Language = linking people and cultures together with the languages specialism • Responsibility - a binding agreement • Every child matters = student relationships • Citizenship = global community • Working together = building tomorrow • Promise = an agreement to work together Responsibility

Learning & Teaching Bond Starting point: (What can students expect from teachers?) • Punctuality to lessons • Fun and challenging lessons • To meet & greet students on arrival • To treat all students with respect • Good listening skills • Clear praise and sanction procedures • Good communication skills • Varied teaching styles • Professionally dressed What else?

Learning & Teaching Bond Starting point: (What can teachers expect from students?) • Punctuality to lessons • Fully equipped • To wear the school uniform • Ready to learn • Respect for each other • Good listening skills • To try your best • To want to learn more • To communicate with tutors and parents What else?

  5. Learning & Teaching Bond Following on from what we expect, consider reviewing the language we have used and consider involving the whole school community. We will now remove the words ‘students’ and ‘teachers’ and change this to ‘learning’ and ‘teaching’. We want to integrate this into every area of school life; including school signage and are proposing the following structure…

  8. Learning & Teaching Bond Review: • What would you change? • What would you add? • What terminology would you like to use? • Where would you like to see this ‘bond’ displayed? Please discuss in tutor groups and as a member of staff in the school community. Please send comments to the Mr. McGill by Friday 3rd October. This bond will be introduced in November 2008.
