UL / CSA approval of Saia- Burgess motors • UL = Underwriters Laboratories Inc., US:an independent, not-for-profit product-safety testing and certification organization, first founded in 1894, second foundation in 1903, 123 UL centres worldwide, 62 laboratories and certification facilities, more than 71.000 companies use UL marks, • Historical background: initiative from insurance companies • Motivation: avoid fire (e.g. many houses made of wood) and other hazards • More than 800 valid UL standards on safety developed1,291 UL and 376 CSA standards for different products • Approbation of products linked with factory inspection (each quarter or half a year)
