  2. What is Static Electricity? • Static electricity is a imbalance between negative and positive charges in objects. •  Static electricity is produced when two objects are rubbed together.

  3. Example One! • Rubbing a balloon on your head, and bringing it close to a wall and seeing if it stays mounted.

  4. Example Two! • Shuffling your feet across a carpeted floor and then touching a metal object.

  5. Example Three! • Rubbing an object (some sort of plastic scoop) against a material (cotton) and placing it beside running water.

  6. How Static Electricity works. • Were going to use example one; • Rubbing a balloon on your head, and bringing it close to a wall and seeing if it stays mounted. • If you would rub a balloon against your hair is will remove some of the electrons from your hair and gives the balloon a slight negative charge. Now put the balloon against a wall. It will stick (if the weather is not wet air) since the negative charges in the balloon will allow the atoms of the wall, and a weak electrical force will hold the balloon in place on the wall.
