  6. Experience foreign cultures(异国文化体验) Do you know that in some parts of the world putting your hands on your hips(臀) is impolite? The thumbs-up sign downright is offensive? A wink(眨眼睛) is unacceptable? Read and act the following body languages. In Australia, it is rude to wink at women. In China, point with an open hand and point with the hand facing palm down; to use a finger to point is rude.

  7. In Japan, it is unacceptable for two adults of the same sex to hold hands while walking together. A smile can mean happiness, anger, embarrassment, or sadness. It is an insult to point at someone with four fingers spread and thumb tucked in. When someone compliments you, respond by waving your hand back and forth in front of your face. Because it is considered impolite to show their teeth, women cover their mouths when they laugh.

  8. In Korea, it is rude to blow your nose in front of people. When talking to someone, keep your hands in full view. It is rude to keep your hands behind your back or in your pockets. In Spain, snapping the thumb and first finger together a few times is a form of applause. If you've heard the story before, put your right hand behind your head and pull your left ear. In Sri Lanka, moving your head from side to side means yes.

Thank you all the same. No, thanks, but I can manage myself. That’s very kind of you, but I can do/manage it myself.

  13. Some examples of offers and responses A: Can I help you with the housework? B: No, thanks, but I can do it myself. A: The box seems very heavy. Would you like me to help? B: That’s very kind of you. Thank you. A: Is there anything else I can do for you? B: No, thanks for your help. A: Would you like some help? B: Yes, please. Would you please go and buy me some apples? I want some red ones. A: Sure, I’ll be back in a minute.

  14. Language developing It’s a pleasure to do… It’s a/my pleasure. with pleasure 1)It’s a pleasure to do 是客套语, 意思是 “很高兴做…”相当于 Pleased /Nice/Great to do. It’s a pleasure to meet you.=It’s nice/pleasant to meet you. It’s a pleasure for me to be invited to speak here.=I’m glad to be invited to speak here. 2) It’s a pleasure.=A pleasure=My pleasure. 回谢用语, “不用谢”. = It’s nothing.= Not at all.= You are welcome.=Don’t mention it.=That’s all right.=My pleasure. ---Thank you, Mum, for your party, and for your beautiful present. ---Not at all, dear. It’s my/a pleasure. 1.pleasure

  15. 3)With pleasure=Yes/Certainly. 意思为”当然可以”, “愿意效劳” “不成问等.=No problem. =I’d like to. ----Could you help me with my English? ----With pleasure. ----Would you post the letter for me? ----With pleasure.

  16. 2.manage vi./vt. ---(often used with can, ,could) to succeed in dealing with (something difficult ) manage sth. manage to do sth. ---Do you need any help with those heavy boxes? ---No, thanks. I can manage them myself. ----I can manage to carry them myself.

  17. 3.pleasing 与pleasant pleasant指给人带来的愉快的感觉, pleasing主要指令人高兴的事物、消息等。 We had a pleasant time together. Did you have a pleasant time in your holiday? She has a pleasant voice. The news is quite pleasing.
