This paper explores the routes of scientific communication between eastern and western Europe in the age of experimentation (1650-1680). It examines the sources, geography, and aims of this communication, as well as the data modeling tools used to structure and analyze historical correspondence. The paper also discusses the upcoming tools in the Pinakes project for cultural heritage analysis.

EoS: step by step • 1. to build a “static” web collaborative infrastructure that will work as: • a repository of letters • an infrastructure with letters’ extrinsic information (sender, addressee, place of origin, place of destination, date); • an infrastructure with letters’ internal information (people, books, instruments, manuscripts, maps, related letters, observations etc.); • 2. to build a “dynamic” web collaborative infrastructure able to cross data so as to establish required relations between them; • 3. to transfer these relations on a geographical map 4th International Conference of the European Society for the History of Science. EoS: geography As to space, it takes into account the geographical area included in the triangle Rome – Florence - Paris – Danzic, with special respect of the Mitteleuropa areas, that is Poland and the Habsburg Empire’s «periphery» (the yellow area).
