  8. ELA Achievement (FSA ELA)* * Students must have a valid score on this assessment to be included in school grades

  9. Mathematics Achievement (FSA Mathematics)* * Students must have a valid score on this assessment to be included in school grades

  10. Mathematics Achievement (FSA EOC) or Science/Social Studies Achievement (NGSSS EOC)* * Students must have a valid score on this assessment to be included in school grades

  11. Science Achievement (SSA)* * Students must have a valid score on this assessment to be included in school grades

  12. Learning Gains • Available for ELA & Mathematics only • All students who count in the denominator for achievement will also count in the denominator for learning gains, as long as they have a score on the state test in the same subject area in the prior year. • Students in the country for less than 2 years as of the first day of the writing component of FSA ELA will not be included in the achievement component but will be included in the learning gains denominator as long as they have a score on the state test in the same subject area in the prior year or on Access for ELLs

  13. Learning Gains for Lowest 25* Note: Percentile rank is calculated based on prior year’s state assessment independent of current grade and course. Example: * List of lowest 25 students is located in your school’s AAE share folder in OneDrive.

  14. Special Circumstances • ELL students who are in the country for less than 2 years as of the first day of the Writing window are: • NOT eligible to be included in achievement components • Eligible to be included in learning gains components

  15. Acceleration Components Middle School Acceleration (MSA) College & Career Acceleration (CCA)

  16. Middle School Acceleration (MSA) *Qualifying industry certification exam is defined as the CAPE industry certification list adopted in Rule 6A-6.0573 and does not include Digital Tools certifications. Note: Industry certification is lagged by 1 year.

  17. College & Career Acceleration (CCA)* Note: This component has a 1 year lag * Credit earned outside the state is not included

  19. Graduation *W3A and W3B codes excluding DJJ facilities. Students who transfer to a DJJ facility using these codes will still be included in the denominator.

  21. Achievement & Learning Gains Denominator Scenarios • Maria is a full year enrolled, retained 10th grade student who scored a level 3 on the Grade 10 FSA ELA last year. Should she re-take the Grade 10 FSA ELA this year? If she re-takes the FSA ELA, will she count in the denominator for the ELA achievement component? Will she count in the denominator for the ELA learning gains component? • Kristen is a full year enrolled, retained 5th grade student. Should she retake the Grade 5 SSA? Will she count in the denominator for science achievement? She should not re-take the FSA ELA. She will not count in the achievement or learning gains components. She should retake the Grade 5 SSA. She will count in the science achievement component.

  22. Achievement & Learning Gains Denominator Scenarios • Jorge was a 10th grade student who enrolled at the beginning of the school year and withdrew April 18, 2017. He took Liberal Arts Math 1 as a 9th grader. He was enrolled in Algebra 1 this year and was a first-time test taker for the Algebra 1 EOC, which he took at the school he transferred to on April 18. Will he count in the denominator for math achievement? Will he count in the denominator for math learning gains? • Jacinia is a full year enrolled, 2nd grade student who is taking accelerated coursework and who takes the Grade 3 FSA ELA. Will she count in the denominator for the ELA achievement component? Will she count in the denominator for the ELA learning gains component? He will count in the denominator for math achievement but not for math learning gains. She will count in the denominator for the ELA achievement and the ELA learning gains components.

  23. Achievement & Learning Gains Denominator Scenarios • Marcus is a full year enrolled student who is taking Algebra 1-A as his only mathematics course for the year. His prior year math course was M/J Pre-Algebra. He takes the Algebra 1 EOC that year. Will he count in the denominator for the math achievement component? Will he count in the denominator for the math learning gains component? • Chloe is a full-year enrolled 11th grade student who scored a level 2 on the Grade 10 FSA ELA in the prior year. She took the ACT in November and earned a concordant score. Should she re-take the FSA ELA? Will she count in the denominator for ELA achievement? Will she count in the denominator for ELA learning gains? He will not count in the denominator for math achievement or for math learning gains. She should not re-take the FSA ELA because she earned a concordant score. She will not count in the denominator for ELA achievement or learning gains.

  24. Bonus: Achievement & Learning Gains Numerator Scenarios B1. Jaquez takes the Algebra 1 EOC as a 7th grade student and earns a score of 516, then takes the FSA Grade 8 Math as an 8th grade student and earns a score of 337. Will he be counted in the learning gains numerator? B2. Mary Katherine takes the Grade 5 FSA ELA and earns a scale score of 384. What is the minimum scale score she needs to earn on the Grade 6 FSA ELA in order to make learning gains? He will count in the learning gains numerator. 356 (level 5)

  25. Acceleration Denominator • Caleb was a non-graduate who took and passed an AP exam. Will he count in the denominator for CCA? • Kaitlyn was a 2016-17 graduate who passed an AP exam in her junior year (2015-16) and earned the Apple Certified Pro industry certification in her senior year. For which year(s) of the school grade will she count in the denominator for CCA? • Malta was a full year enrolled 7th grade student in 2015-16 who was enrolled in Algebra 1 and earned a score of level 2 on the Algebra 1 EOC. She takes Pre-Algebra in 8th grade. Will she count in the denominator for MSA in 2015-16? Will she count in the denominator for MSA in 2016-17? No because he’s not a graduate. She will count in the denominator for the 2016-17 graduating class, which is included in the 2017-18 school grade (lagged). She will count in the denominator for 2015-16 since she was enrolled in the EOC course but not for 2016-17 since she doesn’t have a level 3 score on her grade 7 math assessment.

  26. Acceleration Denominator • Allen was a full year enrolled 8th grade student in 2015-16, who had earned a level 3 on his Grade 7 FSA Math test. He earned a level 3 on his grade 8 FSA Math test. He was retained at the end of the year and repeated 8th grade in 2016-17 at the same school. Will he count in the MSA denominator for 2015-16? Will he count in the MSA denominator for 2016-17? • Georgina was a full year enrolled 8th grade student in 2015-16, who had earned a level 3 on her Grade 7 FSA Math test. She took but failed a qualifying industry certification exam in grade 8 and took and passed the Algebra 1 EOC in grade 8. Will she count in the MSA denominator for 2015-16? Will she count in the MSA denominator for 2016-17? He will count in 2015-16 b/c of prior year Grade 7 FSA Math score. He will not count in 2016-17 b/c prior year score is Grade 8 FSA Math. She will count in 2015-16 and 2016-17 because of the 1 year lag on industry cert.

  27. Bonus: Acceleration Numerator Scenarios B3. Lamar takes and passes 3 AP exams as an 11th grade student in Georgia. In September of his 12th grade year he transfers to a school in Florida and graduates from that same school. He takes a Dual Enrollment course and earns a D and takes no qualifying exams as a senior. Will he count in the numerator for CCA? If he counts in the numerator, how many points will he earn the school? B4. Darline is enrolled for all 3 years of middle school at the same school. She earns a level 2 on her grade 7 FSA Math test. In her 8th grade year (2016-17), she takes and passes a qualifying industry certification exam. She also takes Algebra 1 and earns a level 3 on the EOC. Will she count in the MSA numerator in 2016-17? Will she count in the MSA numerator in 2017-18? He will not count in the numerator b/c he tested in GA. She will count in the numerator for both years.

  28. Bonus: Acceleration Numerator Scenarios B5. Meghan is a full year enrolled 8th grade student in 2016-17 who earned a level 3 on the Grade 7 FSA Math test and who passed the Autodesk Certified User – Inventor exam in 2015-16. She takes Algebra 1 and passes the Algebra 1 EOC in 2016-17. Is she counted in the MSA numerator in 2015-16? Is she counted in the MSA numerator in 2016-17? How many times is she counted in the MSA numerator (i.e. how many points does she earn for the school)? B6. Dylan is a full year enrolled 8th grade student who takes and passes the Adobe Certified Associate – Photoshop certification in 2015-16. Will he count in the MSA numerator in 2015-16? Will he count in the MSA numerator in 2016-17? She is in the numerator in 2016-17 only and earns only 1 point. He will not count because he passed the Digital Tools certification.

  29. Graduation Scenarios • Adam entered school as a 9th grader in Oregon in 2012-13 and was retained. By 2015-16, he was a 10th grader, and he moved to Florida in November of that year. Does he transfer into the 2012-13 grade 9 cohort, or the 2014-15 grade 9 cohort? • Jeannie was part of the 2013-14 grade 9 cohort, and she withdrew from the school in 2016-17 with a withdrawal code of W3A, to a DJJ facility. Is she removed from the original school’s graduation cohort? He transfers into the 2014-15 9th grade cohort. She is not removed from the original school’s graduation cohort.

  31. Answers to Achievement & Learning Gains Scenarios • She should not re-take the FSA ELA. She will not count in the achievement or learning gains components. • She should retake the Grade 5 SSA. She will count in the science achievement component. • He will count in the denominator for math achievement but not for math learning gains. • She will count in the denominator for the ELA achievement and the ELA learning gains components. • He will not count in the denominator for math achievement or for math learning gains. • She should not re-take the FSA ELA because she earned a concordant score. She will not count in the denominator for ELA achievement or learning gains. B1. He will count in the learning gains numerator. B2. 356 (level 5)
