  2. Example writing • I love it when my friend Annabelle comes over to spend the night on Friday nights. We stay up late and do many things. We have a blast together. We fix snacks and do fun things. Sometimes we go places. I always look forward to the good times we have.

  3. Why do I need to write details? • Readers want details so they can picture things in their minds.

  4. Why do I need details? • Be sure you explain what you mean. Do not assume that someone will know what you mean.

  5. Sentences needing details • For my birthday I got a lot of stuff. • My friends and I do many things. • I have fun.

  6. Descriptive writing example • On Saturday afternoons, my friends and I meet under the giant old oak tree near the park. We ride our bikes through the woods and look for animals. Sometimes we stop and climb a gigantic tree that has wooden slats nailed to it to form stairs. I like to sit way up top and hold on to the rough branches.

  7. Writing Time: • Use the following sentence to create a descriptive paragraph (5 – 8 sentences) • I was exhausted.
