Yellowstone National Park Yellowstone National Park is the world’s first national park, created by an act of Congress in 1872. The park contains the largest concentration of geo-thermal features in the world, as well as the largest Bison and Elk herds in the world.
The park is surrounded by six national forests. This 18 million-acre land mass is the last intact ecosystem left in the world.
Yellowstone experiences over 3 million visitors annually. This equates to over one million vehicles entering into the park every year.
Uniqueness of the park: Yellowstone experiences over 2,000 earthquakes every year.
In 1916, the first automobiles entered the park…
Yellowstone’s Environmental Program Today: We are addressing the critical importance of preserving and protecting this national treasure through: -- Use of biodiesel in all vehicles-- Biobased cleaning and janitorial products-- Biobased lubricants/solvents-- Renewable energy successes-- Water-conservation initiatives-- Green procurement programs-- Green transportation
