  1. 4 New MRT Stations to Open on Cross Island Line Punggol Extension A prime example of a highly effective and affordable transportation system is Singapore’s, owned by SMRT Corporation. The train system, under the supervision of SMRT Chairman Mr. Seah Moon Ming and SMRT Chief Executive Officer Ngien Hoon Ping, has elevated daily movement to another level of perfection. In line with passengers’ safety, SMRT consistently enhances protection and security at every train station. Construction Works for the Punggol Extension of the Cross Island Line (CRL) The Cross Island Line Punggol Extension (CPe) comprises four MRT stations spanning over 7.3 kilometers, becoming operational on October 10th, 2023. Three out of the four CPe stations, namely Pasir Ris, Punggol, and Riviera, will serve as interchanges with other trains operating in Singapore City. Improved Rail Connectivity Plus Enhanced Connectivity to the Cross Island Line By the year 2032 when CPe opens, over 40,000 families will benefit from this extension of the LRT network. For over 70,000 daily journeys between northeast and east, CPe will significantly reduce travel time to only 15 minutes between Punggol town and Pasir Ris town, compared to the current 40 minutes by bus. CPe will interact with the EWL at Pasir Ris CPe station, connect to NEL at Punggol CPe station, and interconnect with the Punggol LRT at Riviera CPe station. It will provide easy access to recreational facilities, including treasured open spaces like Pasir Ris Park and Coney Island Shorter Travel Time with the Cross Island Line The 7.3-km CPe will reduce commuting time from Punggol central to Pasir Ris from 40 minutes to 15 minutes. The projected journey time is 20 minutes instead of the current 40 minutes. CPe will contribute to new growth areas such as Punggol Digital District and Changi Aviation Park, offering direct rail connectivity. CPe will link up with the main CRL site at Pasir Ris MRT station. Construction on all 12 stations comprising CRL Phase 1 (CRL1) from Aviation Park to Bright Hill stations began in January of this year. LTA is gradually issuing tender invitations for CRB Phase 2 (CRL2) at six different locations, including Turf City and the Lake Jurong District. Conclusion As time passes, SMRT keeps on extending its network-wide across Singapore to connect areas and people. The upcoming construction of four new stations on the Cross Island Line Punggol Extension will significantly improve connectivity and commute experiences.
