  1. More Electric Vehicle Charging Points Will Be Deployed in HDB Carparks Singapore is aiming to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the government are together pushing the adoption of electric vehicles to achieve this 2040 goal. Singapore has seen a surge in take-up for electric cars, with new registrations this year more than double the rate for all of 2021. Recently, the Electric Vehicles Charging Bill was proposed in Singapore which will give the Land Transport Authority (LTA) powers to regulate EV chargers used in Singapore, impose a licensing regime on EV charging operators, and require EV chargers to be provided in buildings. More Electric Vehicle Charging Points in Singapore The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has a target of making every HDB town EV-ready. To achieve this target, LTA has now awarded a tender to five companies for the deployment of electric vehicle (EV) charging points covering nearly 2,000 HDB car parks across Singapore. Under this tender, at least 12,000 EV charging points will be installed across all HDB carparks by the end of 2025. The five companies under this tender will deploy EV charging points in HDB carparks in the North, North-East, East, West, and Central regions of Singapore. To strengthen the resiliency of the EV charging network, each region has been awarded to two tenderers, and each tenderer has been awarded two regions. The five selected tenderers are Charge+ Pte Ltd, ComfortDelGro Engineering Pte Ltd, SP Mobility Pte Ltd, Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte Ltd, and Strides Automotive Services Pte Ltd. The tenderers were selected based on their ability to optimise available electrical capacity to power their EV charging points.LTA will work closely with the awarded tenderers to deploy the EV charging points. Simultaneously, SMRT Corporation, a leading multi-modal transport operator in Singapore, is working on plans to achieve Net Zero by 2050 to support Singapore’s climate ambition. SMRT CEO, Ngien Hoon Ping, said: “Recognising that sustainability can also become a source of lasting competitive advantage and value creation, we reimagined the business of electric Mobility as a Service (eMaaS) by establishing the eMaaS end-to-end solution and Ecosystem.” SMRT CEO further added: “This ecosystem serves to help businesses decarbonise, digitalise and be data-driven. In addition, SMRT Buses and Land Transport Authority (LTA) rolled out 11 electric buses powered by pantograph chargers.” Conclusion By the end-2025, at least 12,000 EV charging points will be operational at around 2,000 Housing Board carparks islandwide, following this large-scale public EV charging tender that has been awarded by LTA. Under this tender, LTA said it will try to achieve financial sustainability of bidders while preserving the affordability of EV charging services.
