  1. 1 Thess.1:2-8: “2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; 3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labor of love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father; 4 knowing, brethren beloved of God, your election, 5 how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance; even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake.

  2. 1 Thess.1:2-8: 6 And ye became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit; 7 so that ye became an ensample to all that believe in Macedonia and in Achaia. 8 For from you hath sounded forth the word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but in every place your faith to God-ward is gone forth; so that we need not to speak anything.”

  3. First century Christians were zealous • Acts 2:42; 4:18-20; 5:42; 8:4; 18:25-28 • We too are to be zealous– Titus 2:11-14 • Notice 3 things: • 1. Not enough just to be excited for the Lord • Rom.10:2 • 2. Godly sorrow yields zeal • 2 Cor.7:10,11 • 3. It’s contagious • 2 Cor.9:1,2

  4. They rejoiced in receiving the gospel Acts 8:39; 16:34 They rejoiced when others received it Acts 11:18,23 They rejoiced in persecutions Acts 5:41; Matt.5:10-12 They rejoiced in daily living Acts 2:46 We likewise should be joyous Phil.4:4

  5. People noticed their boldness Acts 4:13 Prayer helps us to be bold in our work Acts 4:29-31 Eph.6:19,20–“19 And on my behalf, that utterance may be given unto me in opening my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.”
