Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) VICTR Resources – What’s New/What’s Next! Tara Helmer, PA-C, MPH Research Services Consultant
Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) Objectives • To provide some background information on Vanderbilt’s Clinical & Translational Science Award (CTSA) and the development of the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (VICTR) • To highlight some of the VICTR services/resources available through a live demonstration of StarBRITE • To facilitate discussion around development of existing/new resources
Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) • Vanderbilt received a CTSA in Sept. 2007; PI: Gordon Bernard; currently in Year 02 of our renewal • Currently led by NCATS (Nat’l Center for Advancing Translational Science), the CTSA program supports a national consortium of medical research institutions designed to transform how biomedical research is conducted. • Goals are to speed the transition of laboratory discoveries into treatment for patients, to engage communities in clinical research efforts and to train a new generation of clinical and translational researchers. • 62 institutions across the country
Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) Implementation of our CTSA: Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (VICTR) Goals of VICTR include: • Establish physical & virtual home for translational investigation • Stimulate communication, remove impediments and streamline administration • Develop a new generation of investigators trained in the bi-directional process of translational research • Foster collaboration and innovation by creating value-added review processes and pilot research
Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (VICTR) StarBRITE StarBRITE integrates many VICTR resources and provides a single electronic point of entry for Vanderbilt and Meharry Medical College researchers. • Design Principles: • Focus on researcher needs first; • Leverage existing resources whenever possible to • avoid duplication of effort; and • Include auditing and logging of user activity to • ensure evaluation metrics are available to support • program review and future prioritization. • Internet - https://starbrite.vanderbilt.edu • VUNetID & password
