  1. Tinos A island where you can refresh your body, mind and soul…

  2. The place, the climate and the people… • The largest island of the Cyclades, next to Naxos and Andros. • The climate is cool but strong winds blow around the year. According to mythology, Tinos was the residence of Aeolos, the god of the Winds. • The people are hospitable, cheerful and polite.

  3. Tradition and Architecture • The local houses are plain and practical, built according to the traditional Cycladean architecture, whitewashed with blue doors and windows and lovely chimneys.

  4. Dove-cotes • The main characteristic of the island are its 1,000 pigeon-houses, made of stone near fertile land and mountain slopes. • Their lower part serves as a place to keep agricultural and stock-breeding products.

  5. An artistic island • Tinos was the birthplace of the painters, Litras and Gizis, and the sculptors, Filipotis, Vitalis and Halepas.

  6. Church of Evangelistria • The most important religious monument of Tinos and probably the whole Greece. • Built in 1823 by the Smyrniot architect Efstratiou to house the miraculous icon of the Virgin.

  7. The Icon • It was found by Holy Pelagia and is the work of Luke the Evangelist. • On its feast day on the 15th of August the icon of the Virgin is covered with votive offerings and there are many pilgrims.
