Area of a Triangle • Activity: • Draw a rectangle measuring 6cm by 3cm using a ruler in your notebook • Draw a triangle inside the rectangle so that: • a) at least one side of the triangle matches up with one side of • the rectangle • b) the third vertex is on the opposite side of the rectangle • c) shade the triangle • d) estimate the area of the triangle • 3) Cut out the rectangle then cut out the triangle. • 4) Arrange the unshaded pieces to cover the triangle. • 5) What is the area of the triangle and how do you know?
