Be pushed out by a newer technology in the near future INTRODUCTION Podcasting is a way to capture media information such as TV and radio shows, educational programming, or homemade video/audio clips and publish it into the web. People can subscribe to podcasts and have them automatically delivered to their computers. In an educational setting, the students could log on to a computer and have the podcast available for viewing after a simple download. The following three columns are a summary of the results from a ten question survey we sent out to current educators. METHOD Research Questions: Do you use pod or vodcasting for your personal use?YES NO Do you use pod or vodcasting in your classroom? YES NO Pod or vodcasts are easy to implement into daily lessons. TRUE FALSE From my own experience, pod and vodcasts are beneficial to students. TRUE FALSE How might one’s socioeconomic status affect their ability to access and use pod and/or vodcasts? The bulk of the participants for this survey were teachers from the Elk River Area School District. To make our survey unbiased, data was collected from K – 5 teachers, music teachers, a school psychologist, an art teacher, a principal, and as well as teachers that work with the changing curriculum. I also was able to get feedback from 2 teachers in the Shakopee School District. Through the diverse collection of date within various positions in a school district, I believe that the 20 teachers that participated in the survey is as accurate as possible. FINDINGS CONCLUSION For the most part, many of the teachers do not use pod or vodcasting for their personal use. There were more teachers that used pod or vodcasting in their classroom even if they didn’t use it it their personal life. Almost all of the teachers said pod and vodcasts would be easy to implement in their own classroom and would be beneficial to students. All of the teachers said that if a student had a low socioeconomic status that it was nearly impossible for them to access a computer to even use pod or vodcasting. Most of the teachers would use pod or vodcasting in their classrooms if more information was available. Nearly all of the teachers said that pod and vodcasting would most useful in social studies. 100% of teachers said that pod and vodcasting would be best used in high school classrooms. Most of the teachers said that they would use pod or vodcasting for their families if they had time and knew more about the subject. No one was completely opposed to the idea. Finally, over half of the teachers said that pod and vodcasting would be used on occasion for most teachers. CITATIONS ICT Education. (2009). What is Pod and Vodcasting?
