Stellafane! The oldest and most famous ATM conference and star party in North America will be held the following weekend, August 17 - 19, 2012 in Springfield, VT – just 450 miles down the road and a perfect add-on to the IOTA meeting and occultation!
The Occultation! On Aug 11 at 21:58 ADT (Aug 12 at 00:58 UTC) the main belt asteroid (52) Europa will occult the star TYC6223-00442-1 in Ophiuchus as seen from New Brunswick, Canada. The asteroid will be near its stationary point and therefore will block the star from view for the unusually long period of up to 81 seconds. Typically, NB experiences more than 50% chance of 5/10ths clear skies or better in August; best in the path.
