Ontario’s Direct Load Control Program:peaksaver PLUS™ • Peaksaver® is a residential and small commercial demand response program that was launched in 2007. Over 100,000 homes deployed and expected to double with v2. • The Peaksaver®PLUS program allows utilities to cycle various appliances on and off with minimal customer inconvenience and provide customers with the ability to see their consumption in real time via consumer information display. • The peaksaver®PLUS program began rolling out across the province in early 2012. So far 17 LDCs are offering the program to their customers, which represents 71 % of residential customers in Ontario 2011: Energate software and hardware approved province wide by Ontario Power Authority

Ontario’s Smart Grid Fund • In April, 2011, the Ministry launched the $50M Smart Grid Fund, a grant program that will provide financial resources to help companies and organizations demonstrate and commercialize the next generation of smart grid solutions. • Develop and advance the smart grid in Ontario in the near term • Share advanced technology to all markets inside and outside of Ontario • Reduce risk and uncertainty of important electricity sector investments. 2012: Energate awarded $2.9M from Ministry of Energy toward $7.8M innovation and demonstration program with many partners.
