  2. What is the building resilient community theme about? • Not about a new paradigm; • Has become popular buzz word; be careful of imposing construct on others • What does it mean to you? • What does it mean within your world view?

  3. Examples of community resilience? Three of the movies we use in the BRC course: • Evergreen Island, Bougainville, PNG Cooper mine, blockade, civil war, guns, fuel from coconuts • Village of Versailles, Vietnamese Community, New Orleans Former “boat people”, vegetable farmers, recovery after Katrina, fought dump site near by • Favela Rising Drugs and violence as only options for youth, drum and dance groups, respect and contribution to community through high energy of youth; leader paralyzed but fights back
