Currency • I feel this books currency is relevant. It was published in 2003, only five years ago. Even if you found this book at a used book sale 10 years from now it would still be relevant. These are classic recipes and bartending tips. Not much has changed , nor do I think it will.
Intended Purpose • According to the back inner sleeve…… • “Elegantly packaged and entertainingly written, Drinkology reveals the secrets anyone-budding bartender or experienced mixologist-needs to know to create a full repertoire of classic cocktails and cutting edge concoctions.”
Authority • James Waller is a writer and editor in Brooklyn, NY. His previous books include The Moviegoer’s Journal, The Well- Bred Dog, and The Well-Bred Cat.
Formats & Special Features • It appears this title is only in book format and English. • A collection for more than 400 drinks. • Specially designed for use at the bar with a ribbon marker for keeping tabs on your favorite cocktail. It also has a waterproof cover to protect it from mishaps. • A sewn binding which lets it lie flat when opened.
Personal Impression • I liked the compact size of this book and the color of it was attractive. • I also enjoyed all of the recipes. There are many I want to try. I was also grateful for the non-alcoholic section, don’t want to get carried away. • I found the chapter on glassware informative and the section on party planning handy.
Reference Uses • What is in a Martini? A classic Martini has 2oz Gin, ½ oz Dry Vermouth, olives or a lemon twist. • How do I make simple syrup? Combine two cups granulated sugar and one cup of water in a saucepan. Stir, bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer five minutes, remove form heat and allow to cool.
