I will be able to explain the difference between a relation and a function. • I will be able to identify the domain and range of a function and write them in interval notation. • I will know the expectations of ms.Stocum’s classroom. • I will meet almost everyone in the class.

Alphabet Station #3 • Introduce yourself to the group including first and last name and who is the person you like to send a note to (this can include email, hand written notes, texts, etc.) • As a group discuss which word you like on the back wall and why.
Syllabus Review • You have 3 minutes to read the syllabus. Be ready to be able to answer questions about the information after the 3 minutes.
Student Engagement sheet You have 2 minutes to Read the student engagement sheet. Be ready to explain what doodle notes. (you may use your phone to look this up.)
Number Station #4 • Introduce your self to the group including first and last name and if you like math or not. • As a group discuss how long the average student should spend on worthwhile homework.
Rules for Interval notation • 1. always use parentheses for • 2. if the value is included in the domain and range, use brackets around that value. • 3. if the values is not included in domain and range, use the parentheses around that value.
Matching activity • In groups of 2 or 3, match the inequality with the interval • When your group finishes, check your answers with the other group at your table.
Heart Station #5 Introduce your self to the group including first and last name and one thing your love to do. Tell the group how you use math while doing that activity.
Relation vs. function • At your table, take 1 minute to write the definition of a relation and a function.
relation • Is a correspondence between two variables. • Is a set of points
function • Is a relation such that for each x-value in the domain there is exactly one corresponding y-value in the range.
Vertical line test • A vertical line can intersect the graph of a function in at most one point. • If any vertical line intersect the graph at more than one point; then the graph is NOT a function.

Domain and range • At your table, take 1 minute to write the definition of the domain and range of a function.
domain • All possible x-values (independent variable/ inputs) • Represents how width of the graph
range • All possible y-values (dependent variable/ outputs) • Represents the height of the graph

Bounded vs. unbounded intervals • Bounded : when the interval notation is between two numbers. (brackets) • Unbounded: when the interval notation goes to infinity in at least one direction (parentheses)
