  1. Sports Station #1 • 1. Introduce your self to your group members (this should include first and last name, grade, and your favorite sport). • 2. As a group think of 4 ways math is used in your sport.

  2. Welcome Back! Please complete this problem • Bacteria Growth: the number B of bacteria in a peri dish culture after t hours is given by • B = • 1. what was the initial number of bacteria present? Algebraically justify your answer. • 2. how many bacteria are present after 6 hours?

  3. Goals of the day! • 1. I will be able to explain the difference between a relation and a function. • I will be able to identify the domain and range of a function and write them in interval notation. • I will know the expectations of ms.Stocum’s classroom. • I will meet almost everyone in the class.

  4. Smiley Face Station #2 Introduce yourself to the group. This should include your first and last name and something that made you smile over the summer. As a group list 5 things that are fun about math.

  5. PCHS Discipline Expectations/Guidelines • You are expected to: • Be present and on time • Be prepared for and engaged in learning • Be a person of character • Be safe and comply with PCHS and WCPSS policies

  6. What does that mean in Mrs. Stocum’sclass?BE PRESENT & ON TIME • I will be in the classroom when the bell rings • I will minimize the number of absence to the best of my ability • When returning from an absent, I will get a note from attendance before coming back to class

  7. BE PREPARED FOR & ENGAGED IN LEARNING • I will have all of my necessary supplies such as textbook, paper, pencils, and calculator • I will pay attention in class and participate • I will ask questions and pursue knowledge • I will complete all assignments on time • I will work until the bell rings • I will study for tests and quizzes • I will attend at least 4 SMART lunch sessions

  8. BE A PERSON OF CHARACTER • I will use appropriate language • I will leave things as I found them • I will persevere to understand difficult concepts • I will be respectful of my teacher and my fellow classmates • I will have integrity when completing homework and assessments

BE SAFE & COMPLY WITH WCPSS & PCHS POLICIES • I will use all materials as they are designed to be used • I will consume all food outside of the classroom • I will power off and put away ALL electronic devices such as cell phones, iPods, mp3 players, etc. before I enter the classroom • Movement in the class will be for an approved purpose (Consequences for not following these expectations)

  10. Alphabet Station #3 • Introduce yourself to the group including first and last name and who is the person you like to send a note to (this can include email, hand written notes, texts, etc.) • As a group discuss which word you like on the back wall and why.

  11. Syllabus Review • You have 3 minutes to read the syllabus. Be ready to be able to answer questions about the information after the 3 minutes.

  12. Student Engagement sheet You have 2 minutes to Read the student engagement sheet. Be ready to explain what doodle notes. (you may use your phone to look this up.)

  13. Number Station #4 • Introduce your self to the group including first and last name and if you like math or not. • As a group discuss how long the average student should spend on worthwhile homework.

  14. Rules for Interval notation • 1. always use parentheses for • 2. if the value is included in the domain and range, use brackets around that value. • 3. if the values is not included in domain and range, use the parentheses around that value.

  16. Matching activity • In groups of 2 or 3, match the inequality with the interval • When your group finishes, check your answers with the other group at your table.

  20. Relation vs. function • At your table, take 1 minute to write the definition of a relation and a function.

  23. Vertical line test • A vertical line can intersect the graph of a function in at most one point. • If any vertical line intersect the graph at more than one point; then the graph is NOT a function.

  26. Domain and range • At your table, take 1 minute to write the definition of the domain and range of a function.

  31. Practice- grab a sheet working together as needed complete the practice sheet to review everything we have talked about so far. You have 8 minutes.

  32. People Hunt skills review • Complete the people hunt review activity. Find someone who has the same answer as you for each problem. You need a different person for each problem. The person should initial the box. • You have 20 minutes
