As the skin ages it does not have to come with signs of excessive wrinkling or dry and flaky patches – not if we follow a basic routine that stops the effects of the advancing years right in their tracks.

Keeping skin looking healthy and youthful requires taking care of it to ensure it stays lovely for as long as possible. It is good to know that there are different skin types, and we should also understand that these different types require their own specific attention – even though there are some basic rules to follow to keep all types healthy looking. Anyone who takes skin care seriously will tell us that understanding our type is a good start. Therefore, it is advisable to find out what your specific skin type is before you think of the best way to look after it.
This type of skin will obviously benefit from the attention you pay to nourish it by constantly replenishing lost moisture. Your daytime routine should look at the following issues: Washing the face is important, but there is no need to over-wash to keep moisture in; rather use products which have been developed specifically for this kind of skin. It is more important to ensure you use an antioxidant serum on a daily basis to keep free radicals out and protect the skin against cellular damage. We recommend a product with an SPF of at least 30. In the evening try and use a good, gentle cleanser that hydrates. Before turning in, be sure you apply an anti-aging moisturiser to work its magic while you sleep. DRY SKIN DRY SKIN
This type of skin can cause its own problems because of its strong sebum presence, which shows itself on the skin as excessive oily deposits – often as acne and related conditions. In the morning you should try and use a purifying cleanser specifically formulated for oily skins, followed by a toner which can help to restore your skin’s pH balance and to add a layer of protection against impurities from penetrating into your skin during the day. Some toners even bind moisture to the skin. At night you will use your cleanser again to remove the day’s impurities, and instead of vigorously drying the skin, simply pat it dry. Follow up your cleansing routine with a good night cream that contains retinol which is an ingredient found in anti-aging products and often recommended by skin care specialists. OILY SKIN OILY SKIN
At Skin Station we can recommend, for example, our Dr Dennis Gross and Dr Levy of Switzerland products for their retinol containing moisturisers and night creams among our choices.
