AFRICAN COMMUNITY HEALTH INITIATIVE (ACHI) REPORT OF 2011 PROGRAM
INTRODUCTION • African Community Health Initiative (ACHI) has just concluded another medical outreach to 7 villages in Abia and Imo States. • ACHI’s goal of improving the health of rural dwellers was re-enacted during the annual program with the health screening and health education. • Since her need assessment outreach at Umugolo in 2005, ACHI has covered over 12 villages in the two states • ACHI’s establishment of follow-up/maintenance program has ensured patients consistently check their blood pressure and sugar level and get their medications for the next one year.
2011 Coverage • Program held from July 29th to August 10th • Communities covered are: • Aro-Ajatakiri, Ikwuano LGA, Abia State • Alaenyi-Ogwa, Mbaitoli LGA, Imo State • Avutu, Obowu LGA, Imo State • Amaorji, Nkwerre, Imo Sate • Amakaohia, Ihitte Uboma LGA, Imo State • Umugolo, Ehime Mbano LGA, Imo State • Umungwa, Obowu LGA, Imo State
OVERVIEW OF PAST PROGRAMS • After then need assessment in 2005, ACHI lunched an annual Free Medical Mission. • In 2006, ACHI reached Umugolo • In 2007, ACHI reached Umugolo, Umueleke • In 2008, ACHI reached Umugolo, Ihitte Aforukwu, Aronta Mbutu
FOLLOW UP • ACHI Follow up/ Maintenance program is designed to run from August 2011 to July 2012 • Patients will visit an ACHI Center in their village to carry out blood pressure and sugar checks • Patients will collect medication to last for one week • ACHI Follow-up Nurse visits community once a month to supervise & supply medication.
