Agenda • Goals for the project • What has been done? • Current functionality • Where do we go from here?
Goals • Easy access to the Internet. • Vulnerability checking of systems before network access granted. • Limited access for guests/visitors. • Allow ASU affiliates to validate with their ASU credentials for full network access. • Allow VPN encryption. • Improve security. • Implement quickly. • Community service.
What has been done? • Technology currently employed • Cisco Access Points • 1200 series AP • 1400 series AP/bridge • Cisco Clean Access (formerly Perfigo) • Version 3.3.5 • Provides client scanning before access to Internet. • Controls the network access based on different user roles.
What has been done? Cont’d • Division of labor: • City of Tempe provided access to city owned buildings and facilities and helped negotiate access to other buildings not owned by the city. • ASU provided the installation, hardware, software, configuration, and management of the system.
Current Functionality • User opens a web browser. • The session is redirected to the network logon page. • User enters either an ASURITE UserID or clicks the guest button. • The machine is scanned by the system (Nessus scan). • If the scan is successful the user is given the appropriate access for the specific login access. • If the scan fails, they are redirected on how it fix their access. • Users are directed to an ASU/City of Tempe web page that gives additional information about the service and/or announcements about events.
Where do we go from here? • Expand/fill in coverage of downtown area. • Implement Mesh technology • City of Tempe RFP to find vendor to take over free public downtown coverage and provide for-fee coverage of the entire city of Tempe.
