Welcome to 7th Grade Science We believe in learning by doing. Our science program is a “hands-on” experience. You will be doing many experiments through out the year. You will be making a science portfolio of all your experiments. My name is Mrs.Clark, and I will be your science teacher.
Science What will I be learning in 7th grade science?
The Metric System You will be learning the Metric System. Some of the activities we will be doing are: * Tower Building * Metric Olympics * Snail Lab
Mass and Volume You will be learning how to measure mass by using a triple-beam balance. You will also learn three methods to measure volume.
Scientific Method Problem Experiment Information Revised Hypothesis Hypothesis Conclusion
Science Fair Project You will be given the opportunity to do a Science Fair Project. The best projects completed will be entered in the Tulare County Science & Engineering Fair, usually held in March.
Cells and Microscopes Students will study: • Parts of the Cell • Mitosis • Meiosis • Parts of the Microscope • Differences between Plant Cells and Animal Cells
Genetics • We will study many topics in this unit including: • DNA • Heredity • Dominant & Recessive traits • Sexual & Asexual reproduction Gregor Mendel
Human Body We will study the human body. Our study includes the following systems: Skeletal, Muscular, Cardiovascular, Reproductive, and Nervous Systems.
Biomechanics • Many physics principles apply to the human body systems. • How do joints in the body resemble structures used in machines? • How do levers confer mechanical advantage? • How does the body maintain blood pressure? • Why doesn’t blood flow backwards through the circulatory system? • How is the eye like a camera?
Electromagnetic Spectrum • Topics will include: • Visible light • Reflection • Refraction • Absorption • Optics of the eye
Evolution • Changes over time: • Natural Selection • Adaptation • Mutation • Extinction Charles Darwin
Earth Science We will be studying about the earth. • What causes earthquakes? • What are the different kinds of rocks? • What is a rock cycle?
