  3. 1 INTRODUCTION Information systems meet daily in our lives: at home, at work, on the street, in transport. Today it is difficult to imagine life without such systems!

  4. 2 WHAT IS THE INFORMATION SYSTEM? • An information system (IS) is an organized system for the collection, organization, storage and communication of information.

  5. 3 STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT OF IS The first IS appeared in the 50's. During these years they were intended for processing invoices and calculating salaries.

  6. 4 1960s were marked by a change in attitude towards IS. The information received from them was used for periodic reporting on many parameters.

  7. 5 In the 1970s and early 1980s information systems became widely used as a means of managing, supporting and accelerating the decision-making process.
