Thunderbird is a desktop email client from Mozilla, a nice free alternative to Microsoft’s Outlook. You can easily set up Gmail in that if you prefer desktop email apps.
Gmail Setup On Thunderbird • Sign in to Gmail (yourname@gmail.com) or your Google apps account (yourname@yourdomain.com). • Click on “Settings” given at the highest right. • Open “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab. choose “Enable IMAP” possibility. Click on “Save changes”. (Read our orientate POP and IMAP to grasp additional regarding those settings.)
Enter your name in the given box. Provide your email address and password in the required field and click on “continue” button. Thunderbird will automatically try to configure your settings for your mail account. While testing I found that Thunderbird automatically finds settings for Gmail account, but it is unable to find settings for Google apps account (yourname@yourdomain.com) . To fill the correct setting manually, click on “Stop” button given on the right.
Now click on “Manual Setup” button to fill the settings manually. • Now enter the settings manually. Check the screenshot given below for the correct settings for Gmail.
Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) given on the left pane. Select the smtp.gmail.com (Default) from the list and click “Edit” button. A small SMTP Server window will appear. Now enter the settings as given in the below screenshot.
On the left pane, click on the primary choice, i.e. name of your email. currently on the correct facet, fill your email address within the “Account name” field. Outgoing Server (SMTP) change posture choose the server setting you organized in step eleven. Click on OK.
How to Delete Mail From a Mozilla Thunderbird? • Launch Thunderbird Email • Once in Thunderbird, you can delete attachments by right-clicking on the attachment icon that appears at the bottom of a message containing an attachment. • One of the right-click options will say “Delete….” After you’ve deleted the attachment, the appearance of the attachment icon will change, and the description will now say “Deleted: .”
We recommend performing the attachment deletion from the preview pane. That is, rather than double clicking a message to view it in its own window, just click on the message *once* so that you can see a preview of the message and its attachment icon in the lower right pane. Then right-click on the attachment icon that’s visible in there and choose the Delete… function. For some reason, using this function in the preview pane seems to cause less confusion.
Also, that Thunderbird has the ability to let you sort messages by size. Taking advantage of this feature would help you find the messages with the largest attachments first, so you’d get the most bang for your buck. • Right Click on the document icon on the bottom of the screen • After you delete the attachment, it will show as DELETED • One thing to note is that when you do this, it changes the date of the message, so it will then appear as if it came in today
