What do you know about Crop Circles? What is a Crop Circle? (Write your own definition) Crop Circles are patterns that appear in fields. The pattern is created when certain areas of the crops are tamped down, but others are left intact. The edge is so clean that it looks like it was created with a machine. Even though the stalks are bent, they are not damaged. Most of the time, the crop continues to grow as normal. Sometimes, the patterns are simple circles. In other instances, they are elaborate designs consisting of several interconnecting, geometric shapes.
The Truth About Crop Circles... Crop circles have been appearing in grain fields all over the earth during the last few decades. They appear suddenly, usually at night. At first they were simple circles of bent-over grain stalks. Soon a new crop of more elaborate designs evolved—geometric forms reminiscent of profound mathematical theorems. Crop circles first drew attention in the mid-1970s, when they were photographed from the air in fields in Wiltshire County, England, known for being the centre of the phenomenon.
Where do Crop Circles Come From? One theory is that crop circles are created by flying saucers landing in a farmer's field and flattening a neat circle of the crop -- however the increasing complexity of formations makes this theory less likely. Others think that these formations are hoaxes engineered by humans. While some farmers view them as vandalism, others gain revenue from charging viewers.
Are there any eyewitnesses of the actual forming of crop circles? Yes there are quite a few. Here is the story of Robert van den Broeke: “In 1998 I talked to a farm hand at Lockeridge (Wiltshire, UK) who told me that one day - back in the eighties - he was working in the fields. It was a beautiful summer's day. When he and his colleagues went off to have lunch in their site hut, they were suddenly startled by a tremendously powerful thrust of air. The shutters and door were shut with a blow. The farm hands ran outside to see what had caused this to happen, but they saw nothing. Everything looked normal, the sun shone like just before, the crop still looked fine. But when they went back to work again, they found a fresh crop circle. The man was still visibly impressed as he told me his story, over a decade later. He said he was certain that the crop circle had not been there when they went off for lunch, and too little time had passed for it to be man-made. Furthermore, there had been this mysterious blow...”
Light Phenomena... Strange lights are regularly seen and filmed/photographed in and around crop circles. They vary from balls of light and columns of light, to light spirals and foggy lights. On photographs they quite often appear as blurs, as if the photo was wrongly exposed. Sometimes those blurs are white, sometimes brightly coloured, for example red. The fact that the lights occasionally leave traces behind, shows us how physical they really are. This is confirmed by a video footage that shows us a bird of prey attacking a ball of light, assuming it's ordinary food on the wing. At the very last moment however, the bird realises its mistake and turns away rapidly...
ALTON BARNES, WILTSHIRE 11th July 1990 Two Famous Crop Circles... A huge pictogram, possibly the most famous crop circle of all, and featured on the Led Zeppelin album cover. It consisted of a number of circles, rings, paths and various appendages to the rings. WILTSHIRE Thought to be the most complex, ‘mind boggling’ crop circle ever to be seen. It was discovered in a barley field. The formation, measuring 150ft in diameter, is apparently a coded image representing the first 10 digits, 3.141592654, of pi.
