Writing and Speaking • When we write and speak we are usually: • Trying to get something we want (persuasive) • Telling a story to entertain or send a message (reflective and narrative) • Explaining a process (expository) Regardless, we have a message and an audience and we must be detailed and clear, so our message is received how we intend it!!
Persuade! • Should Westmoore High School require uniforms? • Should parents monitor teenagers’ internet use? • Should books/movies be censored? • Should steroids be allowed in professional sports? • Are contact sports like football and MMA safe for children under 10?
Reflect and Narrate! • Who is your best friend? • Where was the last place you traveled out of state? • Who in your life has impacted you? • What is your favorite movie? • What is your favorite band/musician?
Expose and Explain(expository writing) • What was the last thing you built or created? • What is something you have cooked by yourself? • What hobbies do you have? • Do you work? Where? • When have you helped someone do something?
