Magnetos Welding and Small Gas Engines
How do you get the spark? • Large engines get electricity via a battery and alternator combination. • Lawnmowers for example, get electricity from a magneto. • You need electricity to create the spark for the combustion process.
How do you get the spark? • A magneto is an electrical generator that creates periodic high-voltage.
How do you get the spark? • A magneto consists of five parts: • an armature • primary coil • secondary coil • electronic ignition • permanent magnets attached to the flywheel
How do you get the spark? • When the magnets spin past the armature, they induce a magnetic field. • High voltage is achieved between the second primary coils to reach the voltage for the engine to function properly.
