Alice Paul (1912-20) Alice Paul realized early in her career that to make changes in society, it takes a strong leader who has determination and powerful strategies. Paul provided just such leadership for the woman suffrage movement.
Alice Paul (1912-20) She received a Ph.D. in social work (University of Pennsylvania) and trained in militant tactics from British suffrage leaders. Later Paul joined the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA).
Alice Paul (1912-20) She began by putting on a parade in Washington, D.C., to draw attention to their honorable cause. The parade was scheduled to coincide with the inauguration festivities for President Woodrow Wilson. This resulted in near riots.
