What is a PhD? • The PhD is a scholarly degree • Students enrolled in this program learn the skills of inquiry • Our program is focused on scholarship that adds to the body of knowledge of effective practice in educational leadership • Our graduates are School Superintendents, Leaders in Institutions of Higher Education, Principals, Professors, and Policy Analysts

  3. The Program • Preliminary Core • Concentration • Cognate • Research

  4. Preliminary Core • EDL 9000 • EDL 9050 • EDL 9100 • EDL 9110 • Preliminary Exam used for advising purposes

  5. Concentration • At least 18 credits • Typically P-12 PhD students use this to complete certification requirements • We are proposing to do a superintendent track in this cohort • Students with an EdS from Clemson may apply those credits toward this requirement

  6. Cognate • At least 6 credits • These courses are taken outside of EDL • These classes give you the knowledge base to help complete your dissertation

  7. Research • At least 12 credits plus internship and dissertation hours • 4 research classes • EDL 9860 • EDL 9880 • EDL 9890 • EDL 9910 • Dissertation Defense!

  8. Program Delivery • Preliminary Courses will be delivered through WPEC in Greenwood, online, or hybrid • All Concentration courses will be delivered through WPEC in Greenwood • Cognate - based on student interest/need • Research – based on student interest/need

  9. Program Cost • $750 per class billed through WPEC • Clemson tuition for doctoral classes is $370 per credit PLUS fees • No fees charged through this program for classes billed through the cohort
