An etwinning project stretching from the far, cold North to the sunny Mediterranean Fiorenza Iori Nova Gorica 19-20-21 April 2007
Young Europeans care, discuss, realise …. Schools and teachers in the project • Ελληνογαλλική Σχολή Πειραιώς Jeanne d' Arc - Greece • Síðuskóli– Iceland • I.I.S.”V. Benini” - Italy
Eftychia Bouchayer:she teaches Biology, Chemistry and Geography • Sigurdur Sigurdarson: he teaches P.E., Ethics, Physics, Maths, Science • Fiorenza Iori: I teach English
Pedagogical value The project aims at giving students the opportunity to work together on the subjects they prefer. In this way their collaboration will improve and they will find out that they all care about the same things even if they live in different countries. As a result, their bonds will strenghten and they will feel citizens of the same land. Besides, the project will give an idea of the issues today’s young Europeans are interested in.
Age group: 14-18 years old • Duration: November 2006-May 2007 • ICT tools: emails, forums, power point presentations, pictures, web sites, chat rooms, e-magazine … • Topics: art/cinema, music, human relationships/teenagers’ problems, nature, sport, people, folklore, popular places ….
Process • preliminary talking among the teachers (how to introduce the activity, how to involve the students, which ICT tools to use etc…) • introducing students to the etwinning platform and dealing with computer problems • choosing the topics • creating folders in Twinspace • preparing some PPT presentations • using the chatrooms and the forums to exchange comments
finding it difficult to find the ppt presentations in the folders and to add comments (Twinspace not so user-friendly) • collecting all the material and publishing it in a magazine (articles and comments easier to find and easily visible to parents and teachers) • http://www2.edu.fi/magazinefactory/magazines/ItalyGreeceandIceland/
Difficulties and benefits • dealing with computer problems • keeping students involved • surfing the web, collecting information and reorganising it • getting (more) familiar with ITC tools • practising English (reading, writing, rephrasing…) • getting curious about and appreciating different habits, lifestyles and landscapes
What about the future? • adding more articles and comments in the magazine • expanding the topics • collecting the students’ opinions/suggestions in a final document • organising an exchange focused on art and environment • anyway…keeping in touch
